ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

ਮਨ ਕਾ ਕਹਿਆ ਮਨਸਾ ਕਰੈ ॥
man kaa kahi-aa mansaa karai.
The intellect of a person without Naam acts according to the wishes of the mind,
Uwekezu wa mtu asiye na Naam unatenda kulingana na matakwa ya akili,

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਪਾਪੁ ਉਚਰੈ ॥
ih man punn paap uchrai.
and the mind only keeps talking about vice or virtue.
Na akili inaendelea tu kuzungumza kuhusu uovu au fadhila.

ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦਿ ਮਾਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
maa-i-aa mad maatay taripat na aavai.
Intoxicated with worldly riches, one is never satiated with his possessions.
Kwa kulevya na utajiri wa kidunia, mtu kamwe hatoshelezwi na mali yake.

ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਭਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
taripat mukat man saachaa bhaavai. ||1||
Satisfaction and liberation from the love for worldly riches and power is attainedonly when the eternal God becomes pleasing to the mind. ||1||
Kuridhika na ukombozi kutoka kwa upendo wa utajiri wa kidunia na mamlaka unapatwa tu wakati Mungu wa milele anakuwa wa kupendeza kwa akili.

ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਦੇਖੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨਾ ॥
tan Dhan kalat sabh daykh abhimaanaa.
Gazing upon his body, wealth, wife and possessions, one becomes arrogant.
Akitazama mwili wake, utajiri, mke na mali yake, mtu anakuwa na kiburi.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bin naavai kichh sang na jaanaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Nothing except the wealth of Naam accompanies one after death. ||1||Pause||
Hakuna kitu isipokuwa utajiri wa Naam kinaandamana na mtu naada ya kifo. ||1||Sitisha||

ਕੀਚਹਿ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਮਨ ਕੇਰੀ ॥
keecheh ras bhog khusee-aa man kayree.
We indulge in all kinds of joys of Maya and pleasures of mind,
Tunajihusisha katika aina zote za furaha za Maya na raha za akili,

ਧਨੁ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤਨੁ ਭਸਮੈ ਢੇਰੀ ॥
Dhan lokaaN tan bhasmai dhayree.
But in the end this worldly wealth will pass on to others and the body would become a heap of dust.
Lakini mwishowe utajiri huu wa kidunia unaendea wengine na mwili utakuwa mrundo wa mchanga.

ਖਾਕੂ ਖਾਕੁ ਰਲੈ ਸਭੁ ਫੈਲੁ ॥
khaakoo khaak ralai sabh fail.
Ultimately the entire expanse of dust mingles with dust.
Mwishowe upanuzi mzima wa mchanga unachanganyika na mchanga.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਨਹੀ ਉਤਰੈ ਮੈਲੁ ॥੨॥
bin sabdai nahee utrai mail. ||2||
The mind’s filth of vices is not removed without following the Guru’s word. ||2||

ਗੀਤ ਰਾਗ ਘਨ ਤਾਲ ਸਿ ਕੂਰੇ ॥
geet raag ghan taal se kooray.
The various songs, tunes and rhythms are false entertainment for the mind.
Nyimbo, tuni na midundo tofauri ni burudani ya uongo kwa akili.

ਤ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਉਪਜੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਦੂਰੇ ॥
tarihu gun upjai binsai dooray.
Trapped by the three modes of Maya, one remains in the cycle of birth and death and keeps going farther away from God.
Akinaswa na mbinu tatu za Maya, mtu anasalia katika mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa na anaendelea kuenda mbali zaidi kutoka kwa Mungu.

ਦੂਜੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦਰਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
doojee durmat darad na jaa-ay.
The duality and evil intellect of a person does not depart and the pain of separation from God does not go away.
Uwili na uwekevu mbaya wa mtu hauondoki na uchungu wa utengano kutoka kwa Mungu hauondoki.

ਛੂਟੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦਾਰੂ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੩॥
chhootai gurmukh daaroo gun gaa-ay. ||3||
Only that person is liberated from the cycle of birth and death who follows the Guru’s teachings and sings God’s praises, the cure of all afflictions. ||3||
Mtu huyo peke yake anakombolewa kutoka kwa mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa anayefuata mafundisho ya Guru na kuimba sifa za Mungu, tiba ya magonjwa yote.

ਧੋਤੀ ਊਜਲ ਤਿਲਕੁ ਗਲਿ ਮਾਲਾ ॥
Dhotee oojal tilak gal maalaa.
Those who wear a clean loin-cloth, apply tilak (ceremonial mark) on the forehead, wear a rosary around the neck,
Wale wanaovaa vazi safi la kiunoni, kupaka tilak (ishara ya kisherehe) kwenye paji, kuvaa rosari kwenye shingo,

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਪੜਹਿ ਨਾਟ ਸਾਲਾ ॥
antar kroDh parheh naat saalaa.
and read scriptures; but if there is anger within them, then they are like actors reading their part in a theatre.
Na kusoma maandisho ya kidini; lakini iwapo kuwa hasira ndani mwao, basi wao ni kama waigizaji wanaosoma sehemu yao katika ukumbi.

ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦੁ ਪੀਆ ॥
naam visaar maa-i-aa mad pee-aa.
Forgetting Naam, those who remain intoxicated with worldly riches and power,
Wakisahau Naam, wale wanaobaki wamelevya kwa utajiri na mamlaka ya kidunia,

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਥੀਆ ॥੪॥
bin gur bhagat naahee sukh thee-aa. ||4||
they can never enjoy spiritual peace, because there cannot be any spiritual peace without devotional worship through the Guru’s teachings. ||4||
kamwe hawawezi kufurahia amani ya kiroho, kwa sababu hakuwezi kuwa na amani ya kiroho bila ibada ya ujitoaji kupitia mafundisho ya Guru.

ਸੂਕਰ ਸੁਆਨ ਗਰਧਭ ਮੰਜਾਰਾ ॥
sookar su-aan garDhabh manjaaraa.
Animals such as swines, dogs, donkeys, cats,
Wanyama kama vile nguruwe, mbwa, punda, paka,

ਪਸੂ ਮਲੇਛ ਨੀਚ ਚੰਡਾਲਾ ॥
pasoo malaychh neech chandalaa.
beasts and filthy lowly wretch,
hayawani na maskini wachafu wa hali ya chini,

ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮੁਹੁ ਫੇਰੇ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਜੋਨਿ ਭਵਾਈਐ ॥
gur tay muhu fayray tinH jon bhavaa-ee-ai.
are the incarnations through which people, who have turned their face away from the Guru’s teachings, are made to wander.
Ni umwilisho ambao kuupitia watu, ambao wamegeuza uso wao kutoka kwa mafundisho ya Guru, wanalazimishwa kuzurura.

ਬੰਧਨਿ ਬਾਧਿਆ ਆਈਐ ਜਾਈਐ ॥੫॥
banDhan baaDhi-aa aa-ee-ai jaa-ee-ai. ||5||
Bound in bondage of the love for Maya, worldly riches and power, one keeps going in the cycle of birth and death. ||5||
Akifungwa katika utumwa wa upendo wa Maya, utajiri na mamlaka ya kidunia, mtu anaendelea kuingia katika mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਲਹੈ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ॥
gur sayvaa tay lahai padaarath.
One receives the wealth of Naam by following the Guru’s teachings.
Mtu anapokea utajiri wa Naam kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru.

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਕਿਰਤਾਰਥੁ ॥
hirdai naam sadaa kirtaarath.
With the Naam in the heart, one always succeeds in his spiritual journey.
Akiwa na Naam moyoni, mtu daima anafaulu katika safari yake ya kiroho.

ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੂਛ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
saachee dargeh poochh na ho-ay.
And he is not asked to account for his deeds in God’s presence.
Naye haulizwi kutoa akaunti ya vitendo vyake mbele ya Mungu.

ਮਾਨੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸੀਝੈ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੬॥
maanay hukam seejhai dar so-ay. ||6||
One who obeys the Divine Command, is approved in God’s presence. ||6||
Yule anayetii Amri Takatifu, anaidhinishwa mbele ya Mungu.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
satgur milai ta tis ka-o jaanai.
One realizes God only when he meets the true Guru and follows his teachings.
Mtu anagundua Mungu wakati tu anakutana na Guru wa kweli na kufuata mafundisho yake.

ਰਹੈ ਰਜਾਈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
rahai rajaa-ee hukam pachhaanai.
He understands God’s command and lives according to His will.
Yeye anaelewa amri ya Mungu na kuishi kulingana na mapenzi Yake.

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
hukam pachhaan sachai dar vaas.
Understanding the Command of the eternal God, he dwells in His presence.
Kwa kuelewa Amri ya Mungu wa milele, yeye anaishi katika uwepo wa Mungu.

ਕਾਲ ਬਿਕਾਲ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਏ ਨਾਸੁ ॥੭॥
kaal bikaal sabad bha-ay naas. ||7||
That person’s cycle of birth and death ends through the Guru’s divine word. ||7||
Mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa wa mtu huyo unatamatika kupitia kwa neno takatifu la Guru.

ਰਹੈ ਅਤੀਤੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ॥
rahai ateet jaanai sabh tis kaa.
One who remains detached from Maya, understands that everything belongs to God.
Yule anayebaki amejitenga kutoka kwa Maya, anaelewa kwamba kila kitu ni cha Mungu.

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਰਪੈ ਹੈ ਇਹੁ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ॥
tan man arpai hai ih jis kaa.
He surrenders his body and mind to the One who owns them.
Yeye anasalimisha mwili na akili yake kwa yule Mmoja anayeimiliki.

ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਆਵੈ ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
naa oh aavai naa oh jaa-ay.
Such a person is saved from the cycle of birth and death.
Mtu kama huyo anaokolewa kutoka kwa mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੮॥੨॥
naanak saachay saach samaa-ay. ||8||2||
O’ Nanak, he always remains absorbed in the eternal God. ||8||2||
Ee Nanak, yeye daima anabaki amevama katika Mungu wa milele.

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
Mungu Mmoja wa milele, anayegunduliwa kwa neema ya Guru wa Kweli:

ਜਗੁ ਕਊਆ ਮੁਖਿ ਚੁੰਚ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
jag ka-oo-aa mukh chunch gi-aan.
The person in love with Maya is like a crow superficially uttering spiritual words.
Mtu anayependa Maya ni kama kunguru anayetamka maneno ya kiroho kijuujuu.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
antar lobh jhooth abhimaan.
But deep within the mind of that person is greed, falsehood and undue pride.
Lakini ndani kwa kina mwa akili ya mtu hyuo kuna tamaa, udanganyifu na fahari isiyofaa.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਾਜੁ ਲਹਗੁ ਨਿਦਾਨਿ ॥੧॥
bin naavai paaj lahag nidaan. ||1||
Ultimately without meditating on God’s Name, the false show gets exposed. ||1||
Mwishowe bila kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, onyesho la uongo linafichuliwa.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਚੀਤਿ ॥
satgur sayv naam vasai man cheet.
One realizes God’s Name dwelling in his mind and heart by following the Guru’s teachings.
Mtu anagundua Jina la mungu linaloishi akilini na moyoni mwake kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru.

ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੇਤਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਹੋਰ ਝੂਠੁ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur bhaytay har naam chaytaavai bin naavai hor jhooth pareet. ||1|| rahaa-o.
When a person meets with the Guru, he makes that person remember God’s Name; except the love for God, all other love is false. ||1||Pause||
Wakati mtu anakutana na Guru, yeye anafanya mtu huyo akumbuke Jina la Mungu; isipokuwa upendo kwa Mungu, upendo wote mwingine ni wa uongo. ||1||Sitisha||

ਗੁਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਸਾ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਹੁ ॥
gur kahi-aa saa kaar kamaavahu.
O’ my friends, you should do whatever the Guru says (follow his teachings).
Ee marafiki wangu, mnafaa kufanya chochote ambacho Guru anasema (kufuata mafundisho yake).

ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਸਹਜ ਘਰਿ ਆਵਹੁ ॥
sabad cheeneh sahj ghar aavhu.
Always remain in spiritual equipoise by reflecting on the Guru’s divine words.
Salia saima katika usawa wa kiroho kwa kutafakari kuhusu maneno takatifu ya Guru.

ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਵਡਾਈ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥੨॥
saachai naa-ay vadaa-ee paavhu. ||2||
You would receive glory (both here and hereafter) by always remembering the Name of the eternal God. ||2||
Wewe utapokea utukufu (humu na akhera pia) kwa kukumbuka Jina la Mungu wa milele daima.

ਆਪਿ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਲੋਕ ਬੁਝਾਵੈ ॥
aap na boojhai lok bujhaavai.
One who himself does not understand spiritual wisdom but preaches others,
Yule ambaye mwenyewe haelewi hekima ya kiroho lakini anahuburia wengine,

ਮਨ ਕਾ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
man kaa anDhaa anDh kamaavai.
he is mentallly blind and acts in ignorance.
Yeye ni kipofu kiakili na anatenda katika ujinga.

ਦਰੁ ਘਰੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਠਉਰੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
dar ghar mahal tha-ur kaisay paavai. ||3||
How can he ever realize God’s presence in his heart? ||3||
Yeye anawezaje kuwahi kugundua uwepo wa Mungu moyoni mwake?

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
har jee-o sayvee-ai antarjaamee.
O’ my friends, we should perform the devotional worship of that omniscient God,
Ee marafiki wangu, tunafaa kufanya ibada ya ujitoaji ya Mungu huyo mwenye maarifa yote,

ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਨੀ ॥
ghat ghat antar jis kee jot samaanee.
whose divine light is pervading in each and every heart.
Ambaye mwanga wake mtakatifu unapenyeza kila moyo.

ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਲਿ ਕਿਆ ਚਲੈ ਪਹਨਾਮੀ ॥੪॥
tis naal ki-aa chalai pehnaamee. ||4||
Nothing can be hidden from Him. ||4||
Hakuna kitu kinaweza kufichwa kutoka Kwake.
