ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਸੁਣਾਵੈ ॥
jis no da-i-aal hovai mayraa su-aamee tis gursikh guroo updays sunaavai.
The Guru bestows such teachings only on that Gursikh (disciple) on whom God becomes gracious.
Guru anakidhi mafunzo Kama yale kwake Gursikh (mfuasi) ambaye kwake Mungu ni mwenye rehema.
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਧੂੜਿ ਮੰਗੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਕੀ ਜੋ ਆਪਿ ਜਪੈ ਅਵਰਹ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
jan nanak Dhoorh mangai tis gursikh kee jo aap japai avrah naam japaavai. ||2||
Nanak humbly submits himself to that Gursikh (disciple), who meditates on God’s Name with loving devotion and inspires others to do the same. ||2||
Nanak kwa unyenyekevu anajikabidhi kwa Gursikh(mfuasi), anayetafakari juu ya jina la Mungu kwa mahuba ya upendo na kusisimua wengine kufanya vile vile.

ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਇਦੇ ਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਥੋੜੇ ॥
jo tuDh sach Dhi-aa-iday say virlay thorhay.
O’ God, very rare are those who meditate upon You with love and devotion.
Ee Mungu, nadra ni wale wanaotafakari juu yako kwa upendo na mahuba.
ਜੋ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਇਕੁ ਅਰਾਧਦੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਖਾਹਿ ਅਸੰਖ ਕਰੋੜੇ ॥
jo man chit ik araaDh-day tin kee barkat khaahi asaNkh karorhay.
Countless people spiritually benefit from those who meditate upon You with total concentration of their mind.
Watu wasiohesabika wananufaika kutokana na wale wanaotafakari juu yako na kuangazia fikira zao kabisa.
ਤੁਧੁਨੋ ਸਭ ਧਿਆਇਦੀ ਸੇ ਥਾਇ ਪਏ ਜੋ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਲੋੜੇ ॥
tuDhuno sabh Dhi-aa-idee say thaa-ay pa-ay jo saahib lorhay.
O’ God, although the entire world remembers You, but they alone are approved whom You, the Master-God likes.
Ee Mungu, ingawa ulimwengu mzima unakukumbuka, lakini wao pekee wanakubalika wale ambao wewe Mungu-Muumba unapenda.
ਜੋ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਖਾਦੇ ਪੈਨਦੇ ਸੇ ਮੁਏ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੇ ਕੋੜ੍ਹੇ ॥
jo bin satgur sayvay khaaday painday say mu-ay mar jammay korhHay.
Those wretched who go about their daily life without following the Guru’s teachings, keep suffering in the cycles of birth and death
Wale dhalili wanaoendelea na maisha yao kila siku bila kufuata mafunzo ya Guru, wanaishi kuteseka katika mzunguko wa uzazi na kifo.
ਓਇ ਹਾਜਰੁ ਮਿਠਾ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਵਿਸੁ ਕਢਹਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਘੋਲੇ ॥
o-ay haajar mithaa bolday baahar vis kadheh mukh gholay.
In one’s presence they utter sweet words, but slander them behind their back.
Katika uwepo wa mtu wanatamka maneno matamu, lakini wanawasengenya nyuma yao.
ਮਨਿ ਖੋਟੇ ਦਯਿ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ॥੧੧॥
man khotay da-yi vichhorhay. ||11||
God casts such evil minded persons away from Him. ||11
Mungu anatupa watu waovu Kama wale mbali naye.||

ਮਲੁ ਜੂਈ ਭਰਿਆ ਨੀਲਾ ਕਾਲਾ ਖਿਧੋਲੜਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਵੇਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਮੁਖੈ ਨੋ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
mal joo-ee bhari-aa neelaa kaalaa khiDholrhaa tin vaimukh vaymukhai no paa-i-aa.
A faithless master made his faithless servant to put on a lice laden filthy black and blue gown to lodge a complaint against the Guru.
Bwana mkosa Imani alifanya mtumishi wake mkosa Imani kuvaa gauni ya samawati iliyojaa chawa ili kufikisha lawama dhidi ya Guru.
ਪਾਸਿ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਕੋਈ ਬਹਣਿ ਜਗਤ ਮਹਿ ਗੂਹ ਪੜਿ ਸਗਵੀ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਇ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਆਇਆ ॥
paas na day-ee ko-ee bahan jagat meh gooh parh sagvee mal laa-ay manmukh aa-i-aa.
The faithless servant returned in more disgrace after losing the case, and no one in the world would let him sit near.
Mtumishi asiye na imani alirudi kwa aibu zaidi baada ya kupoteza Kesi na hakuna mmoja duniani aliyemruhusu kukaa karibu naye.
ਪਰਾਈ ਜੋ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਚੁਗਲੀ ਨੋ ਵੇਮੁਖੁ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਓਥੈ ਭੀ ਮੁਹੁ ਕਾਲਾ ਦੁਹਾ ਵੇਮੁਖਾ ਦਾ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥
paraa-ee jo nindaa chuglee no vaimukh kar kai bhayji-aa othai bhee muhu kaalaa duhaa vaymukhaa daa karaa-i-aa.
The faithless person, who was sent to slander and backbite the Guru was put to shame along with the faithless master.
Mtu asiye na imani, aliyetumwa kuchochea Guru, alitiwa aibu pamoja na mkuu wake mkosa Imani.
ਤੜ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਸਭਤੁ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚਿ ਭਾਈ ਵੇਮੁਖੁ ਸਣੈ ਨਫਰੈ ਪਉਲੀ ਪਉਦੀ ਫਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਉਠਿ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
tarh suni-aa sabhat jagat vich bhaa-ee vaimukh sanai nafrai pa-ulee pa-udee faavaa ho-ay kai uth ghar aa-i-aa.
O’ brother, instantly everyone came to know that this faithless master along with his servant were thrashed and came back home in utter shame.
Ee ndugu, papo hapo kila mtu alikuja kujua kuwa huyu mkuu mkosa Imani na mtumishi wake walicharazwa na kurudi nyumbani kwa aibu nyingi.
ਅਗੈ ਸੰਗਤੀ ਕੁੜਮੀ ਵੇਮੁਖੁ ਰਲਣਾ ਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਵਹੁਟੀ ਭਤੀਜੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਣਿ ਘਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
agai sangtee kurhmee vaimukh ralnaa na milai taa vahutee bhateejeeN fir aan ghar paa-i-aa.
The faithless master was not allowed to mingle with the society and his family (wife and niece) brought him home.
Bwana mkosa Imani,hakuruhusiwa kutangamana na jamii na familia yake (Bibi na mpwa) walimleta nyumbani.
ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਦੋਵੈ ਗਏ ਨਿਤ ਭੁਖਾ ਕੂਕੇ ਤਿਹਾਇਆ ॥
halat palat dovai ga-ay nit bhukhaa kookay tihaa-i-aa.
He has lost his honor both here and hereafter; he cries out continually in agony.
Amepoteza heshima yake hapa na kujapo; analia na kuwika kwa dhiki.
ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਨਿਆਉ ਸਚੁ ਬਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥
Dhan Dhan su-aamee kartaa purakh hai jin ni-aa-o sach bahi aap karaa-i-aa.
Great is the Creator, Who Himself got this true judgment delivered,
Mkuu ni Muumba, ambaye Mwenyewe alifanya, maamuzi kutolewa.
ਜੋ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਸੋ ਸਾਚੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਚਾਇਆ ॥
jo nindaa karay satgur pooray kee so saachai maar pachaa-i-aa.
that, the one who slanders the perfect true Guru is spiritually destroyed by the eternal God Himself.
kwamba, yule anayechochea Guru kamili, anaangamizwa kiroho na Mungu Mwenyewe daima.
ਏਹੁ ਅਖਰੁ ਤਿਨਿ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
ayhu akhar tin aakhi-aa jin jagat sabh upaa-i-aa. ||1||
This Word of true justice is uttered by the One who created this universe.||1||
Neno la haki ya kweli linanenwa na yule aliyeumba ulimwengu huu.

ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਨੰਗਾ ਭੁਖਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਫਰੁ ਕਿਥਹੁ ਰਜਿ ਖਾਏ ॥
saahib jis kaa nangaa bhukhaa hovai tis daa nafar kithhu raj khaa-ay.
How can that devotee be spiritually satiated whose master himself is spiritually bankrupt.
Ni vipi mwenye mahuba anaweza kinaishwa kiroho ambaye mkuu Mwenyewe Hana roho ndani yake.
ਜਿ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਵਥੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਨਫਰੈ ਹਥਿ ਆਵੈ ਅਣਹੋਦੀ ਕਿਥਹੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
je saahib kai ghar vath hovai so nafrai hath aavai anhodee kithhu paa-ay.
If there is something in his master’s house, he can get it; but how can he get what is not there?
Iwapo Kuna kitu ndani ya nyumba ya mkuu wake, anaweza kukitoa; lakini atapataje kile ambacho hakipo?
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਸਾ ਸੇਵਾ ਅਉਖੀ ਹੋਈ ॥
jis dee sayvaa keetee fir laykhaa mangee-ai saa sayvaa a-ukhee ho-ee.
It is useless to perform the service for the bankrupt master, after doing which one is still asked to account for his deeds.
Ni bure kufanya ibada kwa ajili ya mkuu maskini, baada ya kufanya mmoja anaulizwa kugharamia matendo yake.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੨॥
nanak sayvaa karahu har gur safal darsan kee fir laykhaa mangai na ko-ee. ||2||
O’ Nanak, lovingly meditate on that Guru and God whose blessed vision makes human life fruitful, and no one asks for the account of his deeds. ||2||
Ee Nanak, kwa upendo tafakari juu huyo Guru na Mungu ambaye taswira yake iliyobarikiwa inafanya maisha ya binadamu kustawi, na hakuna anayeuliza kugharamia matendo yake.

ਨਾਨਕ ਵੀਚਾਰਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਚਾਰਿ ਵੇਦ ਕਹੰਦੇ ॥
naanak vichaareh sant jan chaar vayd kahanday.
O Nanak, the Saints think, and the four Vedas (religious books) proclaim,
Ee Nanak , watakatifu hufikiri na wale Vedas( vitabu vya dini) wanne husema,
ਭਗਤ ਮੁਖੈ ਤੇ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਸੇ ਵਚਨ ਹੋਵੰਦੇ ॥
bhagat mukhai tay bolday say vachan hovanday.
that whatever God’s devotees utter comes to pass.
Kwamba chochote mwenye mahuba kwa Mungu anachonena kitafanyika.
ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਪਹਾਰਾ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਸਭਿ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਣੰਦੇ ॥
pargat pahaaraa jaapdaa sabh lok sunanday.
The devotees become known in the entire world and people listen to them.
Yule mtawa anajulikana duniani kote na watu wanamskiza.
ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਮੁਗਧ ਨਰ ਸੰਤ ਨਾਲਿ ਖਹੰਦੇ ॥
sukh na paa-in mugaDh nar sant naal khahanday.
But the fools who envy the Saints never get any peace.
Lakini wajinga wanaoonea wivu watakatifu, hawapati amani kamwe.
ਓਇ ਲੋਚਨਿ ਓਨਾ ਗੁਣੈ ਨੋ ਓਇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਸੜੰਦੇ ॥
o-ay lochan onaa gunai no o-ay ahaNkaar sarhanday.
They burn in their egos but yearn for the virtues of the Saints.
Wanateketea katika ubinafsi wao lakini wanatamani maadili ya watakatifu.
ਓਇ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਾ ਭਾਗ ਧੁਰਿ ਮੰਦੇ ॥
o-ay vichaaray ki-aa karahi jaa bhaag Dhur manday.
What can these wretched ones do, when such is their ill-fated destiny?
Hawa wadhaifu watafanya nini, na mwisho wao ni wa karaha?
ਜੋ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਸੇ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਸੰਦੇ ॥
jo maaray tin paarbarahm say kisai na sanday.
Those who are struck down by the Supreme God are not faithful to anyone.
Wale wanaokomeshwa na Mungu mkuu, sio waaminifu kwa yeyote.
ਵੈਰੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਧਰਮ ਨਿਆਇ ਪਚੰਦੇ ॥
vair karahi nirvair naal Dharam ni-aa-ay pachanday.
They harbor enmity against even those who bear no grudge against anybody, and according to the true justice of God, they suffer in agony
Wanaweka uadui dhidi ya wale wasiobeba kinyongo kwa mtu yeyote na kulingana na haki ya kweli ya Mungu, wanateseka kwa dhiki.
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਸੰਤਿ ਸਰਾਪਿਆ ਸੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਭਵੰਦੇ ॥
jo jo sant saraapi-aa say fireh bhavanday.
Those who are cursed by the Saints will continue wandering aimlessly.
Wale waliolaaniwa na watakatifu watazidi kutanga bure.
ਪੇਡੁ ਮੁੰਢਾਹੂੰ ਕਟਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਡਾਲ ਸੁਕੰਦੇ ॥੧੨॥
payd muNdhaahooN kati-aa tis daal sukanday. ||12||
They, who are cursed by the Saints are destroyed along with their families , just like the tree which is cut off its roots. ||12||
Wale waliolaaniwa na watakatifu wanaangamizwa pamoja na familia zao, kama mti unaokatwa kwa mizizi yake.
