ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਦ ਅਟਲਾ ॥
गुर का सबदु सदा सद अटला ॥
गुरु का शब्द सदैव अटल है।
Irrefutable ever and forever is the word of the Guru (whatever the Guru says that happens for sure).
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ॥ ਦੂਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਨਸੈ ॥੧॥
गुर की बाणी जिसु मनि वसै ॥ दूखु दरदु सभु ता का नसै ॥१॥
जिसके मन में गुरु की वाणी बस जाती है, उसका दुख-दर्द सब निवृत्त हो जाता है॥ १॥
In whose mind abides (Gurbani) the Guru’s word all that one’s pain and sorrow hastens away.||1||
ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
हरि रंगि राता मनु राम गुन गावै ॥
परमात्मा के रंग में लीन मन उसी के गुण गाता है।
imbued with God’s love one’s mind keeps singing praises of God and one is emancipated (from the worldly bonds),
ਮੁਕਤੋੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰੀ ਨਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
मुकतो साधू धूरी नावै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
जो साधुओं की चरण-धूल में स्नान करता है, वह सब बन्धनों से मुक्त हो जाता है॥ १॥रहाउ॥
(O’ my friends), when one (listens and acts in accordance with the Guru’s advice, as if one is) bathing in the dust of the saint’s feet.||1||pause||
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਉਤਰੇ ਪਾਰਿ ॥
गुर परसादी उतरे पारि ॥
गुरु की कृपा से जीव संसार-सागर से पार उतरता है और
by Guru’s grace they are ferried across.
ਭਉ ਭਰਮੁ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
भउ भरमु बिनसे बिकार ॥
उसके भ्रम-भय, विकार नष्ट हो जाते हैं।
Then all their dreads, doubts, and sins are destroyed.
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਸੇ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨਾ ॥
मन तन अंतरि बसे गुर चरना ॥
जिसके मन तन में गुरु के चरण बस जाते हैं,
“(O’ my friends, they in whose) mind and body are enshrined the Guru’s feet (the Guru’s words),
ਨਿਰਭੈ ਸਾਧ ਪਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਨਾ ॥੨॥
निरभै साध परे हरि सरना ॥२॥
वह निर्भय भावना से प्रभु की शरण में पड़ता है।॥ २॥
becoming fear free such saints seek the shelter of God. ||2||
ਅਨਦ ਸਹਜ ਰਸ ਸੂਖ ਘਨੇਰੇ ॥
अनद सहज रस सूख घनेरे ॥
वह सहज आनंद एवं अनेक सुख प्राप्त करता है,
(they enjoy) the relish of many kinds of comforts, poise, and bliss , and
ਦੁਸਮਨੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਨੇਰੇ ॥
दुसमनु दूखु न आवै नेरे ॥
कोई दुश्मन अथवा दुख भी उसके पास नहीं फटकता।
No enemy or pain even comes near them.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ॥
गुरि पूरै अपुने करि राखे ॥
पूर्ण गुरु अपना बनाकर उसकी रक्षा करता है और
(O’ my friends), accepting as his own whom the Guru has saved,
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਸਭਿ ਲਾਥੇ ॥੩॥
हरि नामु जपत किलबिख सभि लाथे ॥३॥
परमात्मा का जाप करते हुए उसके सब पाप-दोष निवृत्त हो जाते हैं।॥ ३॥
by meditating on God’s Name all their sins have been washed off. ||3||
ਸੰਤ ਸਾਜਨ ਸਿਖ ਭਏ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ॥
संत साजन सिख भए सुहेले ॥
असल में संत, सज्जन एवं शिष्य ही सुखी रहते हैं,
(O’ my friends), all those saints, friends, and disciples have obtained peace,
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਉ ਲੈ ਮੇਲੇ ॥
गुरि पूरै प्रभ सिउ लै मेले ॥
पूर्ण गुरु उनको प्रभु से मिला देता है।
whom the perfect Guru has united with God.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੁਖ ਫਾਹਾ ਕਾਟਿਆ ॥
जनम मरन दुख फाहा काटिआ ॥
हे नानक ! उनके जन्म-मरण के दुखों का फंदा कट जाता है और
They has cut off their noose (and emancipated them from the pains) of birth and death.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੜਦਾ ਢਾਕਿਆ ॥੪॥੮॥
कहु नानक गुरि पड़दा ढाकिआ ॥४॥८॥
गुरु उनका पर्दा ढकता है॥ ४॥ ८॥
Nanak says, the Guru has saved their honor.||4||8||

Prabhaatee, Fifth Mehl:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਆ ॥
सतिगुरि पूरै नामु दीआ ॥
पूर्ण सतगुरु ने हरिनाम ही दिया है,
(O’ my friends, whom) the perfect true Guru has blessed with God’s Name,
ਅਨਦ ਮੰਗਲ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸਗਲਾ ਰਾਸਿ ਥੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
अनद मंगल कलिआण सदा सुखु कारजु सगला रासि थीआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
जिससे आनंद-खुशियाँ, कल्याण एवं सदैव सुख प्राप्त हुआ है और हमारे सभी कार्य सम्पन्न हो गए हैं।॥ १॥रहाउ॥
(that person) has obtained bliss, joy, salvation, and eternal peace, and (that person’s) entire object of life has been successfully accomplished.||1||pause||
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਮਨਿ ਵੂਠੇ ॥
चरन कमल गुर के मनि वूठे ॥
गुरु के चरण कमल मेरे मन में बस गए हैं,
(O’ my friends), in whose mind have been enshrined the lotus feet (the immaculate words) of the Guru,
ਦੂਖ ਦਰਦ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਝੂਠੇ ॥੧॥
दूख दरद भ्रम बिनसे झूठे ॥१॥
जिससे दुख-दर्द, झूठा भ्रम नाश हो गया है॥ १॥
all (that one’s) false sorrows, pains, and doubts have been destroyed.||1||
ਨਿਤ ਉਠਿ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
नित उठि गावहु प्रभ की बाणी ॥
नित्य उठकर प्रभु की वाणी गाओ।
O’ human beings, rise up daily to sing Gurbani
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ॥੨॥
आठ पहर हरि सिमरहु प्राणी ॥२॥
हे प्राणी ! आठ प्रहर परमात्मा का स्मरण करो॥ २॥
(the immaculate words of the Guru) and meditate upon God at all times.||2||
ਘਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਭਨੀ ਥਾਈ ॥
घरि बाहरि प्रभु सभनी थाई ॥
घर बाहर हर स्थान पर प्रभु ही विद्यमान है,
(O’ my friends), that God is pervading both in the house and outside,
ਸੰਗਿ ਸਹਾਈ ਜਹ ਹਉ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥
संगि सहाई जह हउ जाई ॥३॥
जहाँ भी हम जाते हैं, वहाँ साथ देकर सहायता करता है॥ ३॥
and in all places. Wherever I go (I find Him) in my company.||3||
ਦੁਇ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਕਰੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
दुइ कर जोड़ि करी अरदासि ॥
नानक दोनों हाथ जोड़कर प्रार्थना करते हैं कि
(O’ my friends), with folded hands I make this prayer (to God, that)
ਸਦਾ ਜਪੇ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥੪॥੯॥
सदा जपे नानकु गुणतासु ॥४॥९॥
सदैव गुणों के घर ईश्वर का जाप करो॥ ४॥ ६॥
Nanak may always contemplate on (God), the treasure of all merits.||4||9||

प्रभाती महला ५ ॥
Prabhaatee, Fifth Mehl:
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੁਘੜ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥
पारब्रहमु प्रभु सुघड़ सुजाणु ॥
परब्रह्म प्रभु सर्वगुणसम्पन्न एवं बुद्धिमान है।
(O’ my friends), that all pervading God is most wise and sagacious.
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਉ ਜਾਈਐ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गुरु पूरा पाईऐ वडभागी दरसन कउ जाईऐ कुरबाणु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
पूर्णगुरु बड़े भाग्य से ही प्राप्त होता है, मैं उसके दर्शनों पर कुर्बान जाता हूँ॥ १॥रहाउ॥
But (only when) by good fortune we meet the perfect Guru, (that we meet Him. Therefore we should) be a sacrifice to the sight (of such a great Guru).||1||pause||
ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਮੇਟੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ॥
किलबिख मेटे सबदि संतोखु ॥
गुरु के शब्द से सब पाप मिट गए हैं और मन को संतोष मिला है।
(O’ my friends), whom the Guru has blessed with contentment through his word (the Gurbani, that person) has dispelled all his or her sins.
ਨਾਮੁ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਹੋਆ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
नामु अराधन होआ जोगु ॥
परमात्मा का नाम आराधना के योग्य है।
Such a person then becomes capable of meditating on God’s Name.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਆ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
साधसंगि होआ परगासु ॥
साधुओं की संगत में ज्ञान का प्रकाश होता है और
In the company of saints that person’s mind is illuminated (with divine wisdom),
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੧॥
चरन कमल मन माहि निवासु ॥१॥
प्रभु के चरण कमल मन में बस जाते हैं।॥ १॥
and the lotus feet (immaculate Name of God) resides in the mind.||1||
ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਲੀਆ ਰਾਖਿ ॥
जिनि कीआ तिनि लीआ राखि ॥
जिस मालिक ने हमें उत्पन्न किया, उसी ने बचा लिया है।
(O’ my friends, one who seeks the shelter of the Guru), is preserved by (that God) who has created that one.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਅਨਾਥ ਕਾ ਨਾਥੁ ॥
प्रभु पूरा अनाथ का नाथु ॥
पूर्ण प्रभु अनाथों का नाथ है।
That perfect God is the support of the support less.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਨਿਵਾਜੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
जिसहि निवाजे किरपा धारि ॥
जिस पर वह कृपा-दृष्टि करता है,
Showing His mercy whom He honors,
ਪੂਰਨ ਕਰਮ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਆਚਾਰ ॥੨॥
पूरन करम ता के आचार ॥२॥
उसके सब आचरण एवं कर्म पूरे हो जाते हैं।॥ २॥
that one’s deeds and conduct become perfect.||2||
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਨਵੇ ॥
गुण गावै नित नित नित नवे ॥
वह हर रोज़ ईश्वर के गुण गाता है और
(O’ my friends, the person) who every day sings songs in praise (of God) with renewed zeal,
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਭਵੇ ॥
लख चउरासीह जोनि न भवे ॥
चौरासी लाख योनियों के चक्र से मुक्त हो जाता है।
doesn’t roam around in millions of existences.(That person is respected so much, as if)
ਈਹਾਂ ਊਹਾਂ ਚਰਣ ਪੂਜਾਰੇ ॥
ईहां ऊहां चरण पूजारे ॥
लोक-परलोक में उसके चरणों की पूजा होती है और
his or her feet are being worshipped both here and there (in this and the next world. Such a person’s)
ਮੁਖੁ ਊਜਲੁ ਸਾਚੇ ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
मुखु ऊजलु साचे दरबारे ॥३॥
सच्चे दरबार में उसी का मुख उज्ज्वल होता है।॥ २॥
Their face shines (with honor) in the true court (of God). ||3||
ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਧਰਿਆ ਹਾਥੁ ॥
जिसु मसतकि गुरि धरिआ हाथु ॥
जिसके मस्तक पर गुरु हाथ रखता है,
(O’ my friends), whose forehead the Guru has placed his hand
ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਦਾਸੁ ॥
कोटि मधे को विरला दासु ॥
करोड़ों में ऐसा कोई विरला ही दास होता है।
– among millions, rare is such a servant
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਪੇਖੈ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥
जलि थलि महीअलि पेखै भरपूरि ॥
वह समुद्र, धरती, आकाश सब में ईश्वर को ही व्यापक देखता है।
(of grace. Such a person) sees God fully pervading in all waters, lands, and skies.
ਨਾਨਕ ਉਧਰਸਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ॥੪॥੧੦॥
नानक उधरसि तिसु जन की धूरि ॥४॥१०॥
नानक फुरमान करते हैं कि उस भक्त की चरण-धूल से उद्धार हो जाता है।॥ ४॥ १०॥
O’ Nanak, one is ferried across (the worldly ocean, by the grace) of the dust of the feet (humble service of) such a devotee.||4||10||

ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ਜਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਅਪਨੇ ॥
कुरबाणु जाई गुर पूरे अपने ॥
मैं अपने पूर्णगुरु पर कुर्बान जाता हूँ,
I am a sacrifice to my perfect Guru,
ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਜਪਨੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जिसु प्रसादि हरि हरि जपु जपने ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
जिसकी कृपा से परमात्मा का जाप किया है॥ १॥रहाउ॥
by whose grace I meditate upon God’s Name again and again.||1||pause||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੁਣਤ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥
अम्रित बाणी सुणत निहाल ॥
उसकी अमृतवाणी सुनने से मन निहाल हो गया है और
(O’ my friends, I am a sacrifice to the Guru), by listening to whose nectar sweet word, I was totally blessed,
ਬਿਨਸਿ ਗਏ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥੧॥
बिनसि गए बिखिआ जंजाल ॥१॥
विकारों के जंजाल नष्ट हो गए हैं।॥ १॥
and my entanglements in poisonous worldly affairs were destroyed.||1||
ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥
साच सबद सिउ लागी प्रीति ॥
सच्चे शब्द से प्रीति लगाई तो
I am now attuned to the love of the true word (of the Guru),
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਆਇਆ ਚੀਤਿ ॥੨॥
हरि प्रभु अपुना आइआ चीति ॥२॥
अपना प्रभु ही याद आया॥ २॥
and my God and Master has come to reside in my mind.||2||
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਹੋਆ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
नामु जपत होआ परगासु ॥
हरिनाम का जाप करने से ज्ञान का प्रकाश हुआ है और
(O’ my friends, while) meditating on God’s Name, my mind has been illuminated with (divine) wisdom
