ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ sorath mehlaa 3. Raag Sorath, Third Guru: سورٹھِ مہلا ੩॥ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਬਦੇ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਭਾਈ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ har jee-o sabday jaapdaa bhaa-ee poorai bhaag milaa-ay. O’ brothers, the reverend God is realized only through the Guru’s teachings; with perfect destiny the Guru unites one with God. ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥੪॥ ha-umai maar mansaa maneh samaanee gur kai sabad pachhaataa. ||4|| Those who eradicated their ego and nipping their desire in the mind through the Guru’s word; O’ God, they realized You. ||4|| ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮਨ
ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਚਿਤੁ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥ bikh maa-i-aa chit mohi-aa bhaa-ee chaturaa-ee pat kho-ay. O’ brother, the Maya which is like a poison has enticed the minds of humans; through clever tricks, one loses his honor in God’s presence. ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜ਼ਹਿਰੀਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਮੋਹ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਲਾਕੀ
ਗੁਰੁ ਅੰਕਸੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਭਾਈ !. ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਚੂਕਾ ਭੇਖੁ ॥੭॥ gur ankas jin naam drirh-aa-i-aa bhaa-ee man vasi-aa chookaa bhaykh. ||7|| O’ brother, Guru’s word is like a goad, which make us realize Naam; hypocrisy departs when one realize the presence of Naam within. ||7|| ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਉਹ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ
ਜਿਨ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਸੇਈ ਸਾਦੁ ਜਾਣਨਿ ਜਿਉ ਗੁੰਗੇ ਮਿਠਿਆਈ ॥ jin chaakhi-aa say-ee saad jaanan ji-o gungay mithi-aa-ee. Only those who have relished the nectar of God’s Naam know its taste, but they cannot describe it just as a dumb person cannot describe the taste of sweets. ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਰਸ) ਚੱਖਿਆ
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੯ ॥ sorath mehlaa 9. Raag Sorath, Ninth Guru: سورٹھِ مہلا ੯॥ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਜਾਨਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥ pareetam jaan layho man maahee. O’ dear friend, know this thing in your mind, ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! (ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਇਹ ਗੱਲ) ਪੱਕੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਮਝ ਲੈ, پ٘ریِتم جانِ لیہُ من ماہیِ ॥ پریتم ۔پیارے ۔
ਜਬ ਹੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਆਇਓ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥ jab hee saran saaDh kee aa-i-o durmat sagal binaasee. When one comes to the Guru’s refuge all his evil intellect vanishes. ਜਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਕੋਝੀ ਮਤਿ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। جب ہیِ سرنِ سادھ کیِ آئِئو دُرمتِ
ਅੰਤਿ ਸੰਗ ਕਾਹੂ ਨਹੀ ਦੀਨਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਆਪੁ ਬੰਧਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ant sang kaahoo nahee deenaa birthaa aap banDhaa-i-aa. ||1|| None of these worldly things have accompanied anyone in the end, and you have unnecessarily entrapped yourself in these worldly bonds. ||1|| ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਤੂੰ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ
